After Monkey Mia we headed to Cervantes to see The Pinnacles. The Pinnacles are made up of thousands of limestone pillars, (182,074 columns) in a yellow sand dessert resembling an ancient ruin. They cover an area of approximately 200 hectares in the Nambung National Park. The sight was spectacular especially at sunset when we visited the park ourselves.
We entered the park with our own guide who was really good at taking us to the appropriate points depending on the speed at which the sun set. It seemed like she knew most of the rocks off by heart and showed us how some of them resembled certain objects or even appendages. I was shocked at one that she pointed it, she didn't seem the type!
When we first arrived at about 6.30pm the rocks seemed a nice orange/yellow colour due to the sun still being visible, however as 8pm approached the sun sank lower and lower and the sky changed to a pink/purple colour which made the rocks look amazing. Even better was when the sun completely set and a red haze was thrown across the whole sky which resulted in the clouds being tinged with colour. We were able to get some really good photographs.
Many of you may recognise the pictures from a Billy Connoly programme. He ran naked through the rocks. Allison was getting a little worried when Rich asked our guide if anyone had ever done that before and she answered 'yes of course, many times'. Luckily Rich forgot about it and kept his kit on. Next stop Perth
