It was bloody cold overnight. Down to 1 degree and 5 degrees with a big frost this morning! On the road again, this time to Queenstown. We go back, part way, over the road we came into Te Anau from Dunedin. Turning off at Mossburn we headed north toward Queenstown.It had rained steadily all night and obviously that rain was widespread. The day of our drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound,dawned (well, I think it tried) cold, overcast and grey. It did manage, however, to give us an amazing sunrise on the way. Red sky in the morning, Sailor's/Shepherd's warnng! (can never remember which is which) Very true.The cloud lifted a little then back down again but it never detracted from the scenery. The road from Dunedin was the most picturesque we had seen I think. As we got closer to the mountains the amazing emerald pastures for miles, bordered by lines of macrocarpa and poplar trees, the willows all but naked. All of this with the hills dotted with white, white sheep on emerald grass which gave way to red tussock.  Incredible contrasts in colour with the bright blue sky, the 'icing sugar' snow on the mountains and the deep green of the pine...

So after our big day yesterday and glorious weather, Dunedin turned on cold southerly winds and a big rain front. Miserable weather we woke up to and it continued all day. No way was I getting out of my warmish bed to go sightseeing! It was down to 3 degrees overnight and 5 degrees at 8am! We finally ventured out around 3pm to buy warm slippers and fleece blankets.
