Wednesday was a brilliant day so went up to Red Rock, only a couple of clicks north, with the kayaks. A small estuary, ideal for kayak fishing. I decided on a walk around the estuary on an excellent track and boardwalk recently installed, while Bill went fishing. Turned out he went catching instead, with an incredible 1.1m flathead, which towed him 30 metres across the sandbar and back, until he managed to bring it to the surface. He couldn't believe the size. The GoPro was on and although he wasn’t going to take the fish (over 70cm in length are considered breeders), he had the jaw grips on to try and swim her alongside to gauge her length. She shook him off, broke free from the jaw grips, snapped the line and swam off. Pity the GoPro battery was dead! Seems it had been switched on inadvertently and lost all charge. So do we believe this fishing tale? Judging by the look on his face, I reckon we do!
I had a nice walk however came across something I have never seen before in all my travels. I am astonished and astounded and can only think I have found a gnome portal – judge for yourself! What the hell else could it be? Surely no sad human created this? I saw a plastic container with what looked like pen and paper and other bits in. No way was I going to open it – I reckon I would have been like Alice (in Wonderland – not Hicks) and been sucked through the portal to Gnome Land. Jeez, I hope I don't come up against any more of these in our travels. The only good gnome is a dead gnome.
Ended with a cooling swim in the pristine waters – just magic!
Today again, a beautiful day so off to Woolgoolga Golf Club for Bill to have a hit around. I walked some and loved this pretty course with mobs of kangaroos and a ton of bird life. Seemed the guy on the ride-on tractor mower fancied Bill though. He seemed to follow him to every hole and lurk in the background with his motor idling. Didn’t really seem to put him off – I thought he played well considering he really hasn't played much these past years.
Tonight we will amble into the Amble Inn Tavern for a meal. I remember the food was good the last time we were here. We have mostly packed up as we are moving on tomorrow morning, heading south for a look at Crescent Head. If there is surf, then we may stay, otherwise on to Bonny Hills. If this takes our fancy we may stay or head further south to Forster. It’s all in the lap of the gods. So nice not having set rules!
