Hola de Buenos Aires!!
So I know some of you have seen the film evita (which is hated here as it's a load of crap!!) but anyway that's not the point I'm getting at - so anyway there is a song in it where Madonna sings "hello, buenos aires..........." and carries on the song like that. So to begin with everytime someone said Buenos Aires I couldn't help but break into song (not the best way to make friends I know) but just couldn't help it! Thankfully, I've finally stopped that now apart from when I was writing the first bit of this v babbled journal entry!!
Ill get to the point now - so I've been here for 1 week which is the longest time I've been anyway apart from when I was in sydney so it really feels like home now. Man, I just love this city! So on the 1st day I met a girl in my transfer bus who I've been hanging out with all week so had loads of fun. The 1st day we got here we saw La plaza de mayo, the cathedral, casa rosada (the presidential house where evita did speeches etc) and the florida shopping street so did loads of touristy things. That night vidya (the canadian girl from my bus) was to meet an argentinian guy who is a friend of a friend. So he decided that we should go to San Telmo for some food so hopped onto a bus (which nearly drove off with me hanging off the side) and got off at the wrong place (and he called himself a local) so we wandered the streets for a bit before finding somewhere to eat. Food was ok but the beer was great - it was raspberry flavour - yum yum!!! After food headed back as muy cansada and in dire need of sleep.
Next day which was saturday we wandered around looking at more tourist stuff then that night we went to San Telmo again for food but found a lil local place that was tres cute. Met a couple of brit guys there so we all went to La Gibraltor bar for some drinks - very cool bar - mix of irish and argentinian! Back at the hostel we bought some tickets for a club called la pancha and left for there bout 2am (like living back in spain again!!) Club wasn't that great but was kinda drunk so didn't really care esp when we rocked home at 6am!!
So on sunday I wasn't feeling my best to say the least. Didn't do much during the day but in the evening went to see La Boca (Buenos Aires team) vers Arsenal (some Argentinian team) footbal match. Was very crazy - much crazier than the Valencia games. The fans had their own lil band thing which was very cool and their chants were more like songs - I tried to pick up a lil but v hard to understand. So the game was awesome.
On monday, didn't do much of interest.
Tuesday, we went on a walking tour of La Boca (the poorest and most colourful part of buenos aires) So had a look around the birthplace of Tango, bought a picture thing and had lunch at this really funky restaurant where they had a band and some tango dancers. During the meal the guy pulled a girl at a time up to do some dancing so obviously I had a go which was so much fun and I don't think I did too bad a job either! That night we went out again with those brit guys to a mexican restaurant in Palermo Viejo - a bit of swanky area with nice boutiques etc. Meal was delicious then went to a bar where I had a frozen margarita thing but with sorbet - so good!! Then instead of going to bed like a good girl and like I had planned everyone else dragged me out which I had no control over!! Its like having loads of Emma's around to lead me astray!!! (only joking Em - miss you really!!!) So we went to a drum and bass night which I loved so did some crazy arsed dancing for a couple of hours then came home about 4.30am I think.
On wednesday we went on another walking tour this time of Recoleta where we saw some cathedrals, museum, monuments and Evita's grave. Pretty much died after the tour as so tired so needed a bit of a nap before our tango lesson! The hostel provides free lessons on a Thursday but we decided to go to a private place around the corner for only 5 pesos (not even 1 pound). So the class had only 6 of us which was great and I was awesome (must be in the genes) but managed to pick it up really well - had so much fun I may take classes when I get home!!!
Today it pissed it down like anything so I had a look around in the pouring rain then have a look around the shops - not sure what up to tonight but I can always add that in later.
So anyway, its easy to see that I have fallen in love with this place - the people are so friendly and the taxi drivers always talk to me and are so funny. Night life is great - probably too good - need to get out of here soon before I loose liver functions!!
Ok adios from buenos aires.
love nikki
