We left Vientiane at 9am to make our way South to Kong Lor which is famous for having the longest caves in Laos. The caves reach 7.4km in distance.
Our first stop was to the temple of Wat Phrabathponesan which had a lot of Buddha pictures inside and a big gold stuppah. I have attached a couple if pictures. We didn't travel too much further until we stopped for lunch in a roadside restaurant. The food wasn't great and I went to the toilet in the worst toilet I've been in since arriving in Asia. :(
We were on the bus until about 6pm. Unfortunately Jess was really poorly so we had to pull over a few times but it general it was just a long journey. Just before arriving at the guest house in the village we stopped at a viewing point and the mountain view was incredible. Previously we had been traveling through a lot of flat land so it was such a change to see he vast mountains in front of us.
We checked into our guest house, the owners are on holiday so we have the place to ourselves and went for dinner in a local restaurant. The village is very quiet so there are two guest houses and two restaurants and that's about it. The surrounding fields are mainly used for tobacco harvesting and the men of the village work in the caves.
We had two nights here which as great as we could finally get some washing done but unfortunately my room is full of spiders which I try and forget every time I need the toilet.
In the morning we made our way for breakfast and the first restaurant had no bacon or bread so we went to the second one and were in luck. Then we made our way to the caves. The caves stretch 7.4km in distance. It's 130,000 kip a boat and each boat could take a maximum of three passengers so myself, Saskya and Boun went in one boat and the other guys in our tour went in the other two. We made our way into the entrance of the cave all wearing our life jackets and head torches and got in our little boat. The boats went into the cave stopping at various spots for us to get out and either explore the cave or to help the boat through the water as the water is very shallow in areas due to being the dry season. It was a really good trip and I enjoyed being in the cave and seeing all the stalagmites and stalactites.
We returned to restaurant number one for lunch (noodle soup) and then did a village tour later on in the day. Only thing left was to pick up my washing and return to restaurant number one for tea. Restaurant number one is having a booming business because of the stray tour!
