After picking up my Brazilian Visa yesterday we went back to the Iguazu Falls National Park for a closer look at the falls. We took a boat tour that brought us so close to the falls we got drenched. It was good for a laugh and we bought the video which I'm sure is quite entertaining!
We wandered around Iguazu City when we got back then got some dinner and ice cream....In Argentina we learned steak is really the only choice of meat, they have the best ice cream in the world, and we've both become a little more streetwise.
Today we took the bus to the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls for a few more photo ops before flying to Rio and then bussing is to Paraty. On the bus ride from the airport and again on the way out of Rio we drove through (near) Favela, some of the worst slums I have ever seen. It was incredibly eye opening. Most of the shanties don't have electricity or access to clean water. In reading some of the guide books we learned you can take both walking and bus tours through these areas. Kind of strange to think that people living in some of the worst conditions have become some sort of tourist attraction. Some of the tour companies are non profit and put the money back in to the communities you tour...I guess that makes it a little better, but only a little.
Today was a long day of travelling, so we reward ourselves tomorrow with a beach day and some relaxing in Paraty.
