This week Coral and I went to work at a high school on Saturday. 10 of us went to speak English to high school students. It was interesting. None of us knew what to expect or what we were supposed to say. We all met up in the lobby of the I-house before heading off. Isaac led the way as he was the only one who knew the directions! We are silly sometimes.
It was nice to see a another neighborhood of Tokyo which is not a tourist district. Many of the international students go to shibuya, harajuku and akihabara on the weekends but we do not get the chance to go to outside of the tourist zones often. It is fall, so all the leaves were turning bright reds and oranges. They were very beautiful!
The lesson itself was very fun. We all introduced ourselves before being given a group of four students between two foreigners. As normal Coral and I were together. We played games with four boys. One was from Korea but had lived in Japan all his life. They could speak very good English for their ages.
We played two games. First we played a strange card game which involved someone taking a card from your hand and telling you to do something. These things ranged from singing happy birthday to listing of your favorite sport. One card even stay you to stand up, turn again and still back down. It was a funny games. Once we played a few games we got a little bored and swapped games with another set of students.
This time we played "What am I". Do you know the game? It is when you have a card on your head so you can not see it. You then have to ask questions like "Am I food/human/an animal" to figure out what you are. Some can be very hard when you are playing from a box game. Like `pillow` and `bike`. Some of the questions were funny.
After the lesson, all the international students when and had ramen for dinner. It was delicious. I love Ramen. One of the international students, Isaac, does this thing called the Ramen challenge. Meaning he eats at a different Ramen shop every saturday and sunday! Hes very deciated to it as well :)
