Indochina discovery tour-Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos
24th January
Met the group in Bangkok, I am sharing with a Canadian girl called CJ. There are people from Germany, Norway, Ireland, England and Canada. We went out for dinner with the tour leader charly. For dessert we ate fried bugs and worms, lovely. Leaving for Cambodia at 6am, looking forward to seeing these places and experiencing their cultures. It took 3 hours to get to the border, it was so busy with trucks and bikes carrying all sorts of food. It took about an hour to fill in all the paperwork and cross into Cambodia, we arrived at the hotel in Siam reap at 3.30pm. Had some time to walk around the town then we went to a local charity called new hope. We went to the school to meet the kids they were very good at English and asked us loads of questions. Most of them were orphans. The charity helps the families in the village as they are so poor, also they provide the school so the kids can get better jobs. We had dinner there which was lovely, apart from the fried crickets. I arranged for my mosquito net and sleep liner to be donated to them. The Cambodian people are so nice.
26th January
Went to the angkor wat temples all day it was great to see but a long day. There were monkeys near one of the temples which we were feeding, they kept trying to get my ice cream. We had dinner with the group and went to barter on the night Market.
27th January - Siam reap Cambodia
We went on a boat tour to see the floating village, there were so many houses, including a floating school, crocodile farm and basketball pitch. Boats with small children kept pulling up beside us asking for money, they all had snakes around their necks. You want to give money but they ask you not to because if the kids make money they won't send them to school.
We left Siam reap at 12 to head to phom penh. Ate out with the locals so much cheaper.
