I left Brisbane just in time, the trains stopped running and the city was flooded later that day. We were sat on the runway for over an hour because the ground staff couldnt come out in the rain it was so hard. Trust me to go to oz when the exchange rate is at it's worse and the weather is terrible. Never mind still had a great time. I arrived in Singapore on the 11th January, what a clean city. The architecture of the buildings is amazing. Got to the hostel late so had an early night so I can get up early to explore.
12th January
Left hostel early to go to Sentosa island, there is a beach, universal studios , large casino etc there, I wanted the beach! Went with an American guy called Frank, the hostel are so lovely they find out what people are doing and match them up. We caught the subway and the monorail, it is do cheap here. Went for a swim and lay in the sun for a bit, had some lunch and then went to the ski lift which took you to the go karts. We went down twice, it was good fun. Went to check out the price for universal studios but it was too expensive and it started raining. We headed back to the Marina and went a tour around Clark quay and then went up the sands hotel. This is 3 towers with a boat shape across the top of them. We went to the top, the views were amazing. There are some strange buildings in Singapore, they even have a football pitch in the river. Check out the photos when I upload them. On the roof of the hotel they have an infinity pool, it was amazing, only for hotel guests though. After being out for about 7hours we headed back to the hostel. Chilled ou then went to the hawker centre opposite the hostel for some local food, rice or noodles, noodles or rice, with meat or fish. Really nice and so cheap. Had some beers and went to bed around 1.00.
13th January
Met an American girl called Ming(Chinese) in my room and we arrange to go out for the day. Went to little India, Chinatown and Arab street. It was like being in 3 countries in 1 day. Had the most amazing biriyani from the street stalls. Went to the mustaffa store, OMG you can buy anything in this place. It is open 24hours, floors and floors of stuff. Singapore is shop after shopping centre they are everywhere and they are building more. Went back to hostel to get changed as we were going for a Singapore sling at the raffles hotel, need to make an effort.
OMG this is the most expensive drink I have ever bought and it wasn't that nice. Took loads of photos tonprove I was there. It has to be done while you are in Singapore though. Went back to the mustffa centre and walked round for hours, bought part of a sari but can wear it as a dress. Could spend loads here so cheap. Are late near the hostel, rice this time. Woo
14th january
Caught the bus to Singapore zoo. It started to rain as soon as I got there, oh well I should be used to it. Walked around and saw some strange animals, went to the night safari after but wasn't impressed, really long day.
15th January
Arrived in kuala lumpur and went straight to the hostel, it was really nice the rooms were so big. Met a Canadian girl and Chinese girl in the room, we went out to eat. They wanted real Malayan food so the guy on reception sent us to where the locals eat. The Chinese girl and candian girl(family sheikh) blended in with the locals but blonde me stood out like a sore thumb. We were the only tourist there. No one understood us but that's the interesting part of travelling. Luckily a guy translated and ordered for us. We had 3 rice dishes, 3 meat dishes and drinks and it was about 1pound each, so cheap and amazing food. It was only a street stall with chairs outside but they are the best. We found our way back on the subway and went around the night markets, not much to buy. Started to rain so went back to hostel
16th January
Up really early to get free tickets for the skybridge at the twin towers. Got there at 7.30 and they were closed until the 18th. Went for breakfast and then to some shopping centres. Had lunch in times square and took photos of Chinese new year decorations. Went to the oldest mosque and had to get dressed in full gown and head scarf to go in, we looked so funny. Went to Chinatown and then for a massage, I had a back massage, god it hurt. The Thai women was sat on my back at one point. Walked around the markets and then decided to go to towers at night, they look amazing at night. Took photos then went back to locals area for tea. There was a big screen showing Liverpool v everton, bizarre.
17th January
Caught a bus to malaka, hit and miss what standard you get, they bombard you as soon as you get off the tram. My bus wasn't the best but for a few pounds for a 2hour trip you can't complain. Spent the day there and hot bus back, much nicer one back and cheaper too. Not too much in malaka but a lovely place.
Got back to hostel and bumped into 2 guys I met in new Zealand, small world. They were planning their trip out of kuala lumpur, not much to do there. Found out we are on the exact same flight home so we are meeting in Bangkok on our last night and staying in a hotel instead of a hostel.
18th January
Left kl for penang. Looks the same as kl but smaller. Had a cheap hotel which was nice, own room and tv. Chilled out
19th January
Went to get my train ticket for Penang to Bangkok, lovely 20hour trip. Walked through Chinatown and little India, dejavou. All the same, getting bored need to move on
20th january
Went to get the train to Bangkok and it was cancelled. Had to get a bus to hatyai and then find my way to Bangkok from there. They told me it was 3 hours to hatyai and I could get the train from there, 5 hours it took and the train left about half hour before I got there and there wasn't any more till the next day. I booked on another bus leaving that night to Bangkok, 12 hours overnight, luxury !!!!!!! Got the best seat though do can't complain, right at the front, loads of space in front of me and no one next to me, just annoying stewards waking you to give you a hot towel. They also stopped at 2 in the morning and tried feeding you noodles and rice and meat. I couldn't stomach it. Just wanted to sleep and wake up in Bangkok, which I did at 8.30am, 12 hours later.
