Hello!
We are currently staying on the island of Ko Phi Phi off the West Coast of Thailand. As like everywhere here, it is beautiful. We took a ferry from Railay to Phi Phi yesterday morning and arrived in the afternoon. Stepping off the ferry we were shocked at how new everything looked as we have got so used to walking on rickety wooden piers onto the islands. We later found out however that this island was hit badly by the 2004 Tsunami, hence most things have had to be rebuilt. I think we both found that quite frightening to take in and imagine in an area that now looks so full of life.
Today we took a long tail boat trip around Phi Phi and the island surrounding it. On the way to our first stop I think we both felt like we were sailing the seven seas on what can only be described as a motorised rowing boat. It seemed more like white water rafting than the leisurely sail we were imagining. The driver didn't look worried though so we took that as comfort and just enjoyed the ride! We stopped on some amazing beaches including Maya bay where much of 'The Beach' was filmed. I did keep an eye out for Leonardo DiCaprio but no such luck!
We did lots of snorkelling off and around the islands which was really fun. We saw loads of amazing colourful fish including some quite vicious ones who tried to bite us! I was only wary of sharks, I didn't realise I had to be on the look of for tiny fish too!
We are spending our last day here tomorrow before flying back up to Bangkok the following day ready for our long flight home. It seems so weird that this time next week I'll be back in Derby. I have definitely got too used to this sun, I will have to try and bring it back with me. I just can't believe that the trip is nearly coming to the end!
Bye!xxx
