Day 1 London to Havana
Day 2 Santa Cruz to Matanzas approx. 47km. Our riding starts along the coast road before we turn inland and up hill on the road that takes us through the Yumuri Valley. We continue along the mostly flat valley floor passing farms and ranches. As we reach Matanzas we have a challenging 800 meter long hill to negotiate.
Day 3 Varadero to Zapata approx. 84km We cycle through Matanzas and out to the Carretera Central. Our ride continues through citrus groves and after approximately 60 kms we stop in the small agricultural town of Pedro Betancourt for lunch. From here we continue for 25kms to Jaguey Grande.
Day 4 Cienfuegos to Trinidad approx. 96kmToday is the most challenging day of the event. From the start the road soon starts to undulate as we head out into the countryside. After about 12kms we turn onto the main road linking Cienfuegos to Trinidad. For the next 40kms this rural route is undulating. We stop for lunch at La Vega. The ride in the afternoon is relatively flat until we reach the outskirts of the city where some short hills bring us into town. The last 10kms to our hotel are along the coast.
Day 5 Trinidad to Sancti Spiritus approx. 77km. We leave Trinidad and head into a scenic valley with sugar mills and tobacco fields. Our first rest stop is at Manacas Iznagas, a former sugar farm. We continue cycling through the sugar cane fields until we reach our picnic lunch stop. After lunch we continue towards Sancti Spiritus.
Day 6 Sancti Spiritus to Santa Clara approx. 82km. We leave Sancti Spiritus and make our way once more to the Carretera Central. We continue to pass sugar cane fields on undulating roads that take us through some villages and small towns. We continue cycling until we reach the outskirts of Santa Clara where we re-group before our final stretch of cycling. Our finishing line will be at the Che Guevara Mausoleum.
