So as i mentioned previously, i was very disappointed when i first arrived in melbourne only to have salt rubbed in the wound by the fact that i was staying in probably the worst hostel in town, although its location right on the edge of town was a reason to stay with it.
The day i arrived i didnt exactly travel far, i walked well half way down the city to federation square where i went inside a few musems all quite strange but interesting at the same time. Just taking in the very modern quirky buildings around me. At night took a walk down the river Yarra, i guess you could imagine it if you are walking down the nicest part of the thames but with everywhere being clean and all the buildings lit up in different colours making a very aesthetic view.
Tuesday we took advanatge of the free shuttle bus around town, firstly going to the Shrine of rememberance where a vietnam service had just finished, it was a very humbling experince looking around. This was also home to the Royal Botanic gardens. After here we were taken past the great MCG (melbourne cricket ground) which is quite spectacular in size! could also see the whole sports complex from the olymics and so on. A stop in a very italian part of town for lunch and we were headed to the Uni for a Darwin exhebition. I was quite sure what to expect but this definately wasnt it. I was quite disappointed but it was worth going to chcek out anyway! Making our way back by foot took a fair little while, we ended up going to the cinema that evening to waste away an evening, both too tired for anything too exciting.
Wednesday we had an early start to head out to the Great Ocean Road a must see trip we had been told and a must see trip i would agree with. Starting off at Belles beach which hosts the rip curl surf comp, we then headed further out to amazing sights such as the 12 appostles, the lock ard gorge, london bridge just to name a few. At lunch we stopped off somewhere we were 'guaranteed' to see koalas great i thought. As we headed up the path we were dive bombed by brightly colours parots turns out they were just trying to land on us and eventually they did, looking for food. Not too much further up and not much above eye level there they were, big cuddle koalas sitting in the trees. One woke up but wasnt going to waste some of his 2 hours of being awake trying to move away from us so just posed for pictures. so i have now seen all 'australian animals'.
Today we took the opportunity to go see the historic markets in town, a huge range i guess similar size to camden, although honestly wouldnt want to guess which was bigger, but offering a whole range of thinsg from food to souveniers to 'fahsionalbe clothing' and 'designer clothes' i think not! haha but a great experince. I was then 'ditched' for shopping so i took the opportunity of looking around the shops myself although nothing really took my fancy.
I took the opportunity of booking up a couple more trips to try cheer myself up and make my final days pass quicker! i know its bad spending the money but i got the best deals i could and they aint too expensive! so thats cool :)
