After our border crossing from Argentina into Bolivia we caught a bus to Tupiza! Walked to the La Torre Hostal to book in a nights accommodation and our 4 day jeep tour of Bolivia! Tupiza is a very small town, but quite cute with all the traditionally dressed female bolivians with their hats, skirts and blankets around their shoulders and small dusty streets! So we were up early to have breakfast and then head out into the middle of nowhere! Our jeep drivers name was Freddy and we had a cook for the 4 days included and her name was Maria! They couldn't speak English and we can't speak Spanish so we were lucky a German couple, Carsten and Anna (got married on the same day as us) who studied Spanish shared our jeep! So we travelled everyday in the jeep for hours, the roads are quite poor quality but adds to the atmosphere! We saw things like deserts with snow capped mountains in the horizon, Lagoons, flamingos, swam in a hot spring, strange rock formations and lots of lhama! And we experienced freezing temperatures! "Long johns" at night and beanie, scarf, jackets and anything that would keep you warm during the day! We both suffered terrible altitude sickness for most of the 4 days, but getting to heights of 5000 meters above sea level on the chilean border in the Andes will do that to you! So our tour finished in a very poor town of Uyuni! We spent a night there and then the next morning woke at 4.30am to catch the sunrise over the Salt Flats! Too bad there were too many cloud to watch it rise! Then we spent a couple hours taking crazy photos on the Salt Flats that spread over 14,000 sq kms!!!!!!! Amazing sight! Blue skies, white ground and such a large stretch of it!We also saw a train cemetery and spent the afternoon relaxing around town before we took a ten hour overnight bus ride (dusty and VERY bumpy) to La Paz!
