Day 1
So after an hour boat journey we arrived in Colonia de Sacramento. Our hostel was conveniently located by the port so we walked for 5 mins to get there. We were greeted by the the Uruguayan receptionist who showed us to our 4 bed dorm. It looked like it was just us and one other person. We freshened then made our way down stairs past the hostel social room. Gathered around the TV were a variety of nationalities watching the champions league semi final. Seeing Josh's longing face we made our way to join. Was quite cool to see different nationalities views and reactions to the football. We also had a few beers which went down nicely.
After the game had finished we had a walk down the high street. We had overspent on our budget so for the foreseeable future decided we were going to have to cook for ourselves. After hard decision making as to what cheap food we could buy we decided on the unhealthy option of burger chips onions and bread! It was quite the unhealthy feast but I guess we were craving something a bit naughty. Might be the fact we were had a few beers and felt slightly tipsy! After our feast seeing there wasn't a lot going on in our hostel we went up our room and played cards and talked until we fell asleep.
Sounds like a nice calm night, unfortunately not. First of all at around 2am our room mate a Spanish girl with quite a few piercing turned up obviously drunk banging about the place. That was fine, we've done it ourselves after a few drunks. However shortly after she left returning at 4am with a guy. The two of them made their way to her bunk right in my eyesight. I just closed my eyes and turned over. Then the fierce kissing and rumbling start. Not knowing what to do but hearing that Josh was awake too from his turning on the above bunk, I was thankful when he really obviously coughed to make his presence known! For a moment they seemed to come to their senses and left the room to do their 'business'. They then returned at 5am dropping their money so it rolled everywhere! So pretty much our tame night turned to a no sleeper! Was amusing in the morning watching the awkwardness between them when he left the room. Turns out him was from our hostel so we continued to see them avoid each other all day and also glancing awkwardly at us!
Day 2
Very tired josh and I made our way to breakfast. Lots of bread! Breakfast over here is carb overload!! After breakfast we decided to explore the town. We made our way down to the river and also walked along the pier. The weather wasn't the greatest and my i phone weather app predicted a late afternoon thunderstorm. We walked further seeing the old lighthouse and the old city hall. It really is a cute little town. Not really a lot to do though! I was starting to think that 2 nights might be a bit too long here. Seeing the storm was brewing we headed back down the cobbled streets just making it back to our hostel before the heavy rain fall. Luckily for josh the other semi-final was playing so we sat down with everyone and watched. After the game when the rain had calmed down we walked to the little supermarket up the road which was pretty rubbish and bought some rice and veg for diner. This time much healthier! We made way too much but saved it for our lunch the next day. We were determined to help our budget by eating on a real travellers budget! After diner we headed back to the social room and chatted with the other guests. Everyone was very chilled. Was particularly interesting chatting to the bubbly American girl we'd met. We compared the difference between our language and how we pronounced things and also to Josh's horror found out that American do not drunk orange squash! Then surprise more football! We were literally in Josh's perfect hostel. It was a big game in the South American cup between two of the biggest teams. Josh happily got involved asking questions and researching the league. After chilling with everyone in the social room we made our way to our bunk bed. This time our room mate didn't pull so we actually had a good night sleep!
Day 3
So today we are making our way back to Buenos Aires then catching an over night bus to Mendoza. I did enjoy my time in Uruguay as it was a welcomed break from our hectic travel schedule, however I'm ready to get back to doing stuff and drinking wine! Thankfully Mendoza had lots of different wine tours so I'm very excited :)
