We managed to squeeze in another new country!! Hello Uruguay.
Colonia is a beautifully preserved colonial town around an hour from BA by fast ferry. Sadly standard class tickets had sold out and we had to make do with First. Champagne, wahey!
First things first on arrival, we had lunch in a lovely little restaurant on a picturesque square. Financial point of interest (!) - the restaurant accepted USD and Argentinian Pesos as well as Uruguayan Pesos (of which we had exactly zero). We worked out that the exchange they used meant that paying in Argentinian Pesos worked out over 50% more expensive than in USD. Trying to exploit their neighbours??
We spent the remainder of the afternoon wandering around the town. An interesting feature is that several vintage cars have been placed around the place, some relatively intact and some less so, as shown in the photo accompanying this blog entry. A nice touch.
Very pretty but not the most action packed. A couple of hours strolling was more than enough, luckily we were booked on a late afternoon boat back to Argentina.
That evening we had dinner in a very nice steak restaurant in Palermo Hollywood. Excellent food and free flowing wine and cocktails made for a great evening. And so we bid farewell to Fabrice's family, and to Buenos Aires. Tomorrow we head to the coast, hopefully for a week of sun before leaving South American shores.
