Christmas Day! After a deserved lie in we met the family in the dockside Puerto Madero area. Think London Docklands and Canary Wharf. First we visited the Presidente Sarmiento, a museum ship originally built as a training ship for the Argentine Navy in the 1890s. A beautiful old sailing ship, it has been restored (or well maintained!) and despite everything being in Spanish is very interesting to visit. A hungover Rose declined to come aboard :) After an Italian lunch at a very touristy restaurant on the docks we briefly wandered around the area before heading back into the centre to see if the Casa Rosada museum was open. It wasn't. Small world, we bumped into Michel, a Swiss guy we'd met in Colca (Peru), on the Navimag ferry and on the W Trek (Chile).
That evening we'd booked tickets to go to the Tango Porteño, a horrendously touristy tango show in town. In my mind no less authentic (or rather no more authentic) than the street dancers in San Telmo and La Boca, it was visually stunning and a very entertaining show. We didn't opt for the dinner package and in fact for the life of me I can't remember where we ate that night. Must've been special!!
