A few observations on the journey from Salento to Santa Rosa de Cabal.
Soon after leaving Salento you go past an enormous gated property on the ridge of a mountain, complete with watch tower. This belonged to a now imprisoned drugs lord. You can even see the cages where he used to keep his collection of white tigers and other such exotic animals. Seems crime does pay, at least temporarily.
As in all countries, there is a void between rich and poor here. Some of the houses we went past were amazing, with security to match. I'm sure one had laser cannons aimed on the front gate, but I could be wrong.
Also intriguing were the themed motels - Atlantis, Jungle Lodge, Cherry, Lemon, the list goes on. Hard to say if rooms were rented by the hour or not, but there's certainly some money being spent in/on them.
Forgot to mention that on the journey between Bogota and Salento we past dozens of decent looking holiday resorts - again a sign of the wealth that exists in parts of the population.
Local buses comfortable and very cheap. All good.
