Our next destination was Hội An or otherwise known as Faifo, is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (another one to tick off the list!!)
As we caught a day bus from Hue we arrived at 5pm ish and proceeded to do our usual search for a cheap but clean place to stay. Once we found somewhere, we dumped our bags and headed out for some dinner. We visited some tailors to get an idea of what we wanted to get made/prices.
Hội An is a pretty riverside/seaside village where the streets are lit up by little chinese lanterns, there is a romantic and olde world feel about it. We were just happy enough to wander around soaking in the atmosphere.
After a good nights sleep, we set off to visit hundreds of tailors (theres about 400 in Hội An and it was more Helen dragging Nick around!) as we wanted the best price for our clothes and some of the tailors didnt have the material Helen wanted for her dresses. In the end we settled for Mr Xe for shorts and trousers which were incredibly good value and Helen found another three tailors; Yaly to make her work dress. Yaly is known to be overpriced but it's also the best tailor in town for dresses and they are absolutely no nonsense in the sense that when they say something will be ready it will be!!! The other two tailors were just standard off the street tailors with the exact material Helen wanted!!
After having lunch at Hội An's gem of a restaurant - Cafe 43 (If you ever visit Hội An - PLEASE make a visit to Cafe 43!!) They do traditional Vietnamese food (and Western food) and they do it all with love. We managed to visit three times during our 2 night stay! After filling up our tums, we then walked all over town to find a pub that would be showing the Wales Vs Scotland game. Once we had found a pub we headed back to our guesthouse to facetime our friends (abs fabulous!).
It was when we were chatting to Daniel H and Jack H we realised the time and had to make a mad dash for the pub showing the Wales Vs Scotland - Nick reported the game to be a terrific one but that Scotland were unlucky. However, at the end of the day Wales were better and more ruthless. We managed to get free beer from the bar manager which made it a top night for Nick.
The next day (our last day in Hội An) we picked up our clothes. Helen was absolutely delighted with her work dress (she just has to make sure she does not put on any weight in the next two months!) and it was ready on time so credit to Yaly. Our trousers and shorts were also top notch (surprisingly as they were anything from $8 - $12) - Cheap as chips!!
The girls in Mr Xe were hilarious, after finding out our ages and that we had been together a long time without getting married they all started to slap and beat Nick up (not quite beat him up but they certainly gave him a good slapping). They then started to tell us what was typical of a Vietnamese girl and how their expectations differ from the Western world. Helen couldn't do anything but stand by and laugh at Nick being stuck in a sticky spot!!!!
Helen managed to get one summer dress on time but it was a different story for Helen's other summer dress. When Helen went for her first fitting, the dress had the wrong fastening on the back so they sent it away to be fixed, when it came back it was far too short, so they had to re do the whole dress with the right fastening and the right length - We were sceptical whether it would be ready for 3pm as our bus was leaving at 5pm......to their credit it was ready and exactly what Helen asked for but there was a lot of faff!! We do however highly recommend Mr Xe and Yaly!!!!
Once we had calmed down from all the faff we headed to the bus for yet another over night journey, only this time we were going to Nha Trang.
