Chiangmai Trek - Day 3
Today was amazing! I couldn't get out of bed to start with because it was so cold, and I was the last one up as I always seem to be! We started off with breakfast around the fire watching our guides build our bamboo rafts that we would be sailing on! The raft consisted of 15 bamboo sticks roped together! We had 2 rafts for our group of 10, 5 on each. It was an amazing trip, the scenery was breathtaking, proper jungle! It felt like a scene out of Jurassic Park! At times the journey was so serene, all you could hear was the sound of the water! We sailed on the rafts for around an hour and a half. As it was the dry season we it was a bit bumpy where we hit the rocks on the way down but it was such a great experience!
After we'd sailed to our stopoff point, we walked for a while (not as bad as yesterday!) and picked up the truck! It was such a welcome sight after all of the walking we'd done! We drove for around an hour over rough terrain to one of Chiangmai's highest waterfalls. It was gorgeous! We took a dip in the pool about halfway down the waterfall and jumped in from the rocks. The water was so cold but it was refreshing after the short walk to get there. We relaxed for a while by the pool and realised that the scenery just keeps getting nicer and nicer!
After the waterfall we headed for the highest point in Thailand just to look at the scenery! Us girls (and Tri!) decided to treat ourselves with a hot chocolate and biscuits which were thoroughly deserved we felt!
Our journey back to the hostel was around 2 hours long and I think we were all exhausted and happy from a great weekend! It was quite sad saying goodbye to our guide and the others on the trek!
