Jak here...my turn to write (or attempt) a blog entry. Got the Amtrak train the other day from Anaheim to San Diego, a very packed train due to the horse racing at Del Mar and the Comic Con (a massive convention for comic book fans) being held in San Diego. We arrived at our hotel to find that they had not received our booking which led to a rather brief but otherwise worrying time until we eventually got a room. We headed out that evening for a bite and to find an internet cafe to upload pics and check other bits and entered a World of Warcraft arena disguised as an internet cafe.
Next day we got up and headed to San Diego Bay to have a look around. This ended up being a bit of a mistake as we ended up running into thousands of the Comic Con attendees and to be honest it was an attack of the geeks as Nic said, although I felt quite at home. There were some truly crazy people though dressed as various characters, even some in their own concoctions. We managed to stumble upon South Park World as well where you could basically pay $30 to sit on a sofa with cardboard cutouts of the characters.
Next day we headed to Seaworld. We watched all the shows and did the majority of the rides. The best show was the sea lion show. The warm up act was hilarious, a guy dancing and dressing up to various well known songs and Bieber. We got drenched on the rapids but soon warmed up in the baking sun. More fireworks and returned home to find we were both burnt.
Yesterday we eventually headed to Balboa Park after an impromptu skyping with Miss Gravener. There are a lot of things of interest in the park including museums, fountains, restaurants, markets and San Diego Zoo. The zoo is massive, over 100 acres, and it's pretty exhausting getting round as the hilly terrain and enclosures are designed to mimic the animals' huge natural habitats. The zoo's chinese theatre was great too with acrobatics and chair balancing to amaze and astound.
Today we have been relaxing by the pool, doing laundry and I managed to skype with my dad and sister, which was really great. Back in the World of Warcraft den aka internet cafe now...
