We headed South from Halong Bay making a couple of stops at Hue, Hoi An and the beach town of Nha Trang before arriving at Ho Chi Minh City. Some of the journeys were pretty extreme on overnight bed buses which are actually more like dentist chair buses!
We took a day trip to visit the Cao Dai Temple which was started by none other than Victor Hugo and is basically a mix of Hinduism, Buddhism and Catholism all rolled into one. We watched a service in the brightly coloured temple before hitting the road to the Cu Chi tunnels. This 200 Km network was dug for combat and protection during the fighting in the Vietnam War. We were shown the booby traps (extremely gruesome) and got to climb through 100m of the tunnels. The highlight came at the shooting range where we got to fire AK47's and a Colt .45!! Not something you get to do everyday - and our ears are thankful of that!
Our last stop was the War Remmnants Museum which was an honest and moving account of stories from the war which still effects people today.
Next stop an overnight in Singapore before the ferry crossing to Indonesia for the next leg of our travels.
