alex's most Excellent adventures!
Right i know its been a while since my last blog so thought i better inform you some more of whats been going on.
After finshing off the culture side of Hanoi i.e. visiting Ho Chi Minh museum, house on stilts, temple of literature etc we finally left the madness of Hanoi and boarded our coach bound for Hue some 12 hours away!
Spent two days in Hue in which we had a day on a cyclo (some sort of bike in which you sit in a cradle and get pushed around by a local) visiting the pagodas and the war museums here. Apparantly Hue saw alot of conflict during the US war as its near the former boarder for the north and south Vietnam.
Second day here (somewhat hung over from going out with a dutch and german girl we met), we visited the De Militarise Zone and some tunnels that the vietnamese built to protect them from the US air attack! Nowadays there isnt much here as what was left behind by the US in terms of machinery has long gone and been sold by the vietnamese.
After a short stay in Hue we then headed futher down the coast to Hoi an. Hoi an is a beautiful town on the coast of vietnam and is famous for its shopping. There has to be over 100 tailor shops here which makes it a shoppers paridise (i.e. you girls would love it)! While here we stayed in a luxury 3* hotel for $8 dollar with ground level room that opened up on to the swimming pool (sweet!).
Most of our time here was spent hiring push bikes and riding to the stunning beach 3k away. Here we would spend all day (well from 3-8 as we had been getting on it the night before), before hitting the bars and restaurants on the river front. The food of Hoi an is extremely good and much more varied than the rest of vietnam. My best meal had to be eating fresh crab and dried squid on the beach with some locals and a vitnamese girl i met.
In between this we had some clothes tailor made, in which i had a pair of boardies, a shirt and some combats made all for the small fee of $30! While here the tailors thought quote "we were such lovely boys" that they would like to invite us for dinner. So later that night woosy and i were siting in their home sharing a vietanmese meal of tofo, pork, rice and noodle soup.
Other experiences of Hoi an include meeting some vietnamese students and being taken around on the backs of their motorbikes at 5.am to the beach to watch the sun rise and have a meal of noodles with shrimp washed down with ice tea!
Hoi an was definatly a great place and was nice to relax on the beach before we hit the party destination of Nha trang!
Will let you know how we get on there :)
p.s Im trying to upload photos as there are some quality pics in there! However, having difficultly as asia's net is not exactly rapid! Will keep trying though i promise!
