On the 3/10/2011 we were met at 5.00am at the railwaystation by a representative of the Singhvi's Havali, guest house. He hussled us into a toot toot and gave directions to our driver were to go. We wove around the narrow streets of the old town of Jodhpur. It was early morning but it was alread warm. We went though the large accommodation gate into a courtyard, with one of the staff asleep next to the fountain. We arrived with no sight of any on-duty staff, finally we woke the manager who said he wasn't expecting us so early and showed us to our room.
We settled into our room, Leigh went for a nap while I went and explored this 11 roomed unique gem filled of hand painted pictures on the walls including in our bedroom. There was a large maharani guest room wich included bed, lounge and swing; very unique all in rich reds and golds, and gave you a good feel for the opulent style of the maharani. In the dining room there were low bench tables and floor cushions. The views were amazing, looking over the Blue city and looking up to the Fort.
By mid morning it was heating up we learnt that the best time to sight see was early morning or evening, the middle of the day was hot and many locals were seen having a siesta in their homes.
Leigh and I spoke of the fact that if we were going to travel South India we were going to have to review our schedule, we were spending more time than scheduled in each place and therefore we would have to reluctantly cut out both Jaismaler and Udaipur. We decided to enquire about air fares from Jodhpur, we found a travel office a few doors up the road. Jaisalmer had no airport, this clenched the deal; my hope that we would travel there and then fly onto Goa was not going to be possible.
