Today we woke up and enjoyed the amazing free breakfast at the hostel outside in the garden terrace. This just makes me excited for summer!
We took off in the direction of the Palazzo Vecchio, making only 1 stop on the way for gelato (good any time of the day!) The Plazzo was government offices and a palace during the 1400-1700s, and we took a Secret Passageways tour of it. It was so neat! The tour took us into small rooms covered in art and behind some of the paintings were cabinets and behind others were secret stairways. We made the mistake of choosing a cafe for lunch right next to the Piazza, which ended up being really expensive and not very good (if nothing else, we have learned this- never the first restaurant after a station of tourist spot!).
We went over to the Uffizi, a huge museum with one of the world's biggest and most amazing art collections, and stood in line, watching cute hyper little french brothers tease each other. After we realized that we would be standing in this line for a least 2 hours, we took advantage of a sketchy-looking tour operation, which got us in the door right away for a couple more euros. Well it worked, and we wandered around the Uffizi, a little too tired to completely appreciate the art by Michaelangelo, Rafael, Da Vinci, and others. At least we can say we saw it.
We went back to the hostel, where we did laundry (hooray, we don't smell anymore!) and played on the internet. We ventured out again (smelling good this time, well, at least our clothes) and sat outside to eat dinner while Italian men in cars driving by yelled Italian comments at us. Gotta love Italian men! We have decided that the younger ones can be kinda creepy, but the old Italian men are so cute and we want to bring one back with us. That would be a good souveneir!
We went back to the hostel with gelato (yes... another... shame) and once again sat in the terrace with some wine taking with our new friend, JP, from Ireland. I definitely love this city and don't want to leave!
