Kai Ora from the Land of the Long White Cloud!! Really enjoying myself in New Zealand and we have done quite a lot in our time here (we extended our stay for another 2 nights coz there was so much to do!). But before I start, I realised something today... It was said before I left that I would not make it around the world with my backpack with the level of fitness I had at home that I would not have the ability to do my trip. I would just like to point out that I have made it 3 months so far with my backpack, weighing up to 26kgs at one point, on my back, and there's no signs of me stopping anytime soon!! It made me smile... a lot, realising that little fact today! Anyway, back to the blog!!
Thursday was the day I left Australia, I was very sad at that fact but excited too at the fact that I was meeting up with Janet! So I got to the airport to find out that Janet's flight had been rerouted due to the heavy fog at Sydney, and that our flight to Auckland had also been delayed until 11! So I sat in the airport hoping that Janet would get there in time to get the same flight as me, she didnt and so I flew to Auckland alone. But about 30 mins later Janet arrived and there were tears when we saw eachother! We made our way to the hostel where we had spoiled ourselves with a twin room ensuite!! We didn't do much that night!
The next few days we didn't do much except see the sights, including Minus 5, Aucklands coolest bar! It was an bar made entirely of ice! Pretty cool... geddit??? Tee hee!! We also made a very wasted trip to Auckland Zoo. It was pathetic, not a great zoo at all... the animals all seemed so miserable and the enclosures were tiny! Anyway... we mingled a bit on Sunday night and went to the (empty) hostel bar... I dunno where everyone is but they aint here!! Even the restaurants were empty!
Today we did a free Auckland tour which included an Auckland Bridge walk worth $35! Pretty cool! We watched a few idiots throwing themselves off the bridge attached by a large elastic band... Janet wants to become one of those idiots! I told her I wud mind her bag! No chance of me doing anything like that! We also climbed a volcano (which is where my aforementioned realisation came from) and had fantastic panoramic views of the city! We had a walk through Parnell Village, a posh little area of Auckland too!! A very busy day! Then we went to the SkyTower, the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere at 328m! We went up to the main observation deck and I tried again to conquer my fear of heights, which I did by walking across the glass floors, well not conquer but face anyway lol.
Well, thats about it from Auckland, and tomorrow we start our Kiwi Experience up north to Cape Reinga! We'll be back in Auckland for one night on Thurs, before exploring the reset of New Zealand!! I'll update again soon!
Love and miss you all xxx
