Arrived in Mackay early afternoon...not much to say really! The town is very 'local' and the highlight of our stay here was the 3 scoop ice cream we treated ourselves to after the disappointment of our Whitsundays trip being cancelled. We also went to see "Mrs Henderson Presents" at the cinema...much better choice than the Cairns fiasco, plus Will Young is in it! Our bus to Hervey Bay was due at 10:15pm. Our hostel was quite a walk from the bus station, so we left with plenty of time for much-needed stop-offs along the way. However, just outside the hostel, lo and behold! a shopping trolley from Coles supermarket had been left for our convenience, we piled in the backpacks and set off down the road! Definately thought we'd be stopped by the police and done for trolley robbing...did see two officers along the way, but they were too busy munching on their Subway's to be bothered with us! Once at the bus stop, the 'locals' were hanging around...there were a few moments when we thought we were going to be robbed, raped and murdered, but it was just our paranoia playing up. The Greyhound eventually turned up and we were on our way to Hervey Bay and Fraser Island.
