Viva Brazil!
This is the first of my back-dated journal entries - I went to Teresopolis after leaving Ilha Grande (and with it the sunshine), and intended to go to the national park.
I arrived in the evening and explored the little town, nothing much historic there or anything like that of interest.
Then on the tues (29th) I got up early and got the bus to the national park, when I got off the bus it was starting to drizzle (not a problem I'm an English lass I can cope with a bit of drizzle), which by the time I had walked up to the visitor centre was light rain (still can handle that) - so I plodded on up the main road.
By the time I had completed the first trail and was about 20 minutes into the 2nd the rain had started to belt it down and was making the path waterlogged so I decided to give up on that idea and walk back to the camping ground I'd seen on the way up, where there was a toilet/shower building I could take cover in. It was a shame really because the rainforest was really beautiful, really dense and lush greenery, but I couldn't really appreciate it properly.
When I arrived at the camping ground there was a French lady (who thankfully spoke fluent English - my French is even more terrible than my Portuguese!) and her Brazilian boyfriend/tour guide (couldn't figure that one out). They were really nice and gave me a lift back down to the town, before they headed up the coast themselves, which then spurred me on to make the decision to leave Teresopolis and go to Buzios where the weather was looking promising for the next few days.
So after attempting to explain to the lady at the hotel reception that I wasnt staying and needed a refund (to which she wittered on knowing full well I couldn't understand, then gave me a credit note that I will never use!!), I packed up my things, got the next bus down to Rio and the following bus to Buzios (which is about 3 hours away) arriving at about 9pm at a hostel which was completely empty except myself and the caretaker, because, as he explained several times, it was winter so everything is quiet.
But at least I had a clean room and a good night's sleep...
