Ok, so I’ve been having a series of technical difficulties as well as a fabulous time, hence the hiatus in blogs. I’ve checked previous blogs and suspect I’ve fallen asleep halfway through writing some of the entries! Also, it’s been such a whirlwind of activity that it’s quite disorientating trying to remember what you’ve said and done. The irony is, the more you do, the less time and energy you have for writing. But I do want to keep up if I can.
So, the Blue Mountains were gorgeous. Lovely hotel and Leura is a pretty little town, if a little ‘twee’. But it boasts two wool shops, one of which was a sister shop to the one in Sydney, selling beautiful alpaca yarn. Interesting that although the fleeces are Australian, all the processing of the fleece happens in either Peru, Italy or England and then it’s sold as Australian wool. Makes you realise how far global trading extends and makes me wonder why things are done as they are and whether we wouldn’t be better off all trying to buy local even at the expense of choice. Ironic and not a little hypocritical given I’m the other side of the world.
Anyway in the BMs we had a days pass to Scenic World which gave us unlimited access to a steep cable car, a really steep (ex-mining) railway, a walkway through the ‘rainforest’ and a Skyway ride across a mountain gorge. All fabulous and strangely, for someone who doesn’t do well with heights I found it all great. And the lush scenery, the dense forest and the feast of nature was food for the spirit. In the evenings ( we only had two) we ate once at a local restaurant and had pizzas and then the last night we ate at Madame Wangs. What a beautiful place that was! Completely quirky and eccentric and everything I would want for my own restaurant. Finally we had to move on but we had had a good two days. An easy ride back to Sydney airport and we were back travelling north to Cairns and the delights of the Barrier Reef and big rainforest land.
