This morning we took the Eurostar train from Paris to London. Besides the fact that I was worried how we were going to get all of our luggage on the train it was a great experience. The total trip was 2 hours and 17 minutes and only 20 minutes of that was under the water. This train really moves fast. Here are some fun facts we found…the train regularly reaches 186pmh and they hold the UK train speed record of 208mph. Each train holds 770 passengers (double that of a Boing 747).
We had some lunch on the train and then hauled our 3 months of luggage and text books up to the street where we hopped in a cab and headed to our hotel. We are staying at the Trafalgar Square Hilton Hotel. It is a beautiful hotel with a rooftop restaurant and a location you can't beat. We can walk to so many different London sights from here.
We arrived at 2:00pm and by 3:00 or so we were on a hop on, hop off tour of London. This tour lasted about 2.5 hours but we bought a 48 hour pass so that we can use it as our transportation for the next 2 days. After we were finished getting a good overview of the city we headed to a nearby pub where we split a plate of fish and chips….of course right?! Then it started to rain as we left the pub. We went back to the hotel and almost didn't come back out but we decided that you can't wait for clear weather in London. We took a little walking tour that I had planned for us through Covent Garden, China Town, Soho, Picadilly Circus and then home. It was probably about 2 miles. Now we are home and feeling sleepy! London feels like home. Probably because it feels so much like NYC. Getting around seems so easy so far.
We skyped with my mom and dad today and found out that Clara was depressed the day after we left but now she is enjoying sitting by the pool and playing with the grandkids. She also found a snake out in the woods by the pool…not poisonous WHEW! We miss our girl, but we know she is in the best hands!
