We had quite a variety of adventures in the past two days. Yesterday began with a Segway tour of the Alfama (the oldest neighborhood in Lisbon). Our guide/instructor Peter was wonderful. He gave us a brief lesson in the parking lot by the ship and then we headed out. The Alfama streets are all cobblestone and VERY hilly. We thought it was going to be pretty scary but our guide didn't take us on very busy streets and we spent most of the tour in the alleyways ...

Today we decided to explore Belém which is a little town west of Lisbon. We took the metro part of the way and then transferred to the train for the rest of the journey. As we got off the train we found a restroom in a ferry station nearby where I proceeded to be scolded in Portuguese by the cleaning woman for shaking water from my hands onto the floor. We had the most wonderful day exploring Lisbon. This morning the weather looked a little grim while we were sitting on the back deck having breakfast. We are less than 24 hours from getting off the ship. It looks like tomorrow we will be able to disembark by 10am at the latest. It isn't as bad as we thought it would be just sitting here instead of being out there. I know this post will make you jealous. I am sitting on the port side of the ship watch us approach Lisbon, Portugal! It is so surreal. I can't even describe it. Lots of students are sitting outside watching us arrive and enjoying the beautiful sunny weather and the amazing view.
