We left Kep at 9:30 by taxi to go back to PNH. After all, it's daddy's birthday today and PNH will offer much better choices for a nice dinner than Kep ever will. We booked a nice little hotel called Villa Langkar, which is situated near the independence monument, street 282. Oh yeah, if you have time, check the map of PNH and see how crazy it is and how impossible it is to locate oneself properly unless you've been living here for a while... Crazy ! My nickname is GPS but here I must say I am really confused...
I have set my mind on the Chinese House to celebrate daddy's birthday. Check it out : http://www.chinesehouse.asia/ . The place is amazing. And like my grandparents house, it's one of the few houses in PNH that hasn't changed or hasn't been destroyed. Again, I must tell you that this is a recommendation from Darren ! Really the guy is awesome. I don't know whether he'll still be working at Paddy Rice when some of my friends visit Cambodia but I'll try and get his contact details before I leave, for you to have.
So I made it look like I picked a restaurant, not that far away. Because of the name, dad thought it was Chinese... Hahaha ! I made him walk quite a bit actually, about 1.5 Km... When we arrived, Darren had called Antonio (the owner) to tell him we were arriving and explained the occasion (I told you the guy is awesome !). The doorman opened both big doors of the house and for one second we felt like kings. The ground floor has high ceilings, lights are dimmed and there are a dozen Chinese lamps on the ceiling. It's gorgeous. We stop there for a drink and order an appetizer to share.
We order our main course in advance so that we don't need to wait too long upstairs before we get our food. There starts the time of our deepest talk ever, which will last throughout dinner. None of your business though... And I will therefore not elaborate. Just know that this evening will stay engraved in both our memories for a very long time.
The food was superb. The wine was delicious... proof is that, for once, we drank it all when we usually had one glass each on all our previous dinners... But hey you don't refuse a good Medoc for your birthday ! :-) Antonio brought us dessert and dad got his chocolate cake with a candle on it. Sweet !
By the time we got back to the ground floor to smoke, Antonio offered us a digestive. After my brandy, I was drunk enough... And for the first time, I really didn't have a clue where my hotel was apart from "close to the independence monument". Oooohhhh, I was so drunk ! But what an evening !
Happy birthday daddy ! First birthday in Phnom Penh since 63 years !
