Neil's Round the World Trip!
We checked out of Irish Murphys and then drove to the mesmerising Cataract Gorge. We walked across the huge suspension bridge which was fun especially as a group of joggers crossed while we were on and we nearly got rocked over!!
I saw a wallaby in the bush (alive! I've seen plenty roadkill!) and lots of lizards in the surrounding bush. We then drove to Beauty Point listening to Donna's 3 CDs: 80s music including Sheena Easton, Cold Chisel (Oz band) and Fleetwood Mac! They are the only CDs we have and before you say listen to the radio; the reception is awful.
We had a picnic by the shoreline and then drove north-west, stopping off in the industrial town of Devonport. We then drove to Boat Harbour Bay which was nice reminded me of Newquay. It was very busy as it was Australia Day. We then drove through the quirky town of Penguin which has penguin bins, statues and scarecrows.
We arrived in Stanley around 5pm and checked into an old "colonial" hotel. We then got a chairlift up the "Nut" a huge volcanic rock that looms over the small town. The views out to the ocean from the Nut were awesome. This place really is the back of beyond- no ATMs, one shop, one pub and one post office with a few cafes. It's really quaint.
We sat on the beach and drank wine but the tide came in quickly so we had to move to a grassy hill overlooking the bay.
