We set off for Queenstown early to make sure that we could see as much as we could that the little town had to offer. During the journey we stopped several times at various scenic stops along the way - the whole route is full of mountains and lakes. It was a fairly quick drive so we had arrived by lunchtime.
We swerved into the first camp site we saw within walking distance of the centre and headed out for lunch. Feeling suitably full we strolled around in the sunshine, enjoying being in a bustling town compared to the recent wilderness we had encountered. It's a quaint little place clinging onto the sides of both a mountain and a crystal clear lake. We made the most of this by having a very large glass of wine in the sunshine while we watched the world go by.
Next up we went for a walk around the lake as there are paths all around it's edge. It really was nice to head out of town and see how little there is just out of town. Just a few minutes around the lake there really is nothing at all! After heading back, we took a slightly different path which lead us into the Queenstown Gardens. These are immaculately kept gardens which were a bit of peace on the edge of the town centre.
The rest of the afternoon was spent walking around the streets seeing all of the activities the town had to offer. Bungy jumping, paragliding and white water rafting were just a few of the extreme sports you can take part in. Needless to say, our busy schedule didn't allow time for any of these. It definitely had nothing to do with us being wimps.
For dinner we headed to the famous Ferg Burger to try one of the burgers that every visitor to New Zealand raves about. We weren't expecting much (these things are often over hyped) but we loved the burger! Makes a pleasant change from the rubbish you get in high street fast food chains.
