The drive to Napier took longer than we thought so we only arrived in the evening. Traffic on the North Island is definitely more busy than the south! We headed straight for the camp site and settled into a wine and scrabble evening.

The next morning we went into Napier properly, as we'd only been staying on the outskirts. The city is known for its Art Deco architecture and for that reason it is a really pretty town. However there isn't much to do if you're not on a wine tour, so we had a wander around the town and then headed off towards Taupo and the surrounding volcanoes...
