We drove west from Waihi Beach and our first night was spend on a camp site within Auckland. The whole time was spent watching the updates on the terrible earthquake that had happened earlier in the day in Christchurch. Between this and packing everything back into our bags ready to give the van back, we didn't have time for much else.
Our last day in New Zealand was spent in Auckland, where we sadly handed back the camper and had a wander around Auckland. It's a pretty city, but with not much free stuff to do. The last couple of days were slightly dampened by news of the earthquake. Much of the time was spent watching TV and checking that friends were safe.
We have absolutely loved our time in New Zealand and feel lucky we've managed to cram so much into three weeks. It's got so much variety of things to do that we we think there really is something for everyone. The two islands are both completely different with neither of us able to pick a favourite - they're just too different!
