Hi everyone!
Here we are in sunny Bangkok experiencing the thai lifestyle. Was a bit of a crazy journey...the flight from Manchester to London was delayed, meaning we had 20mins in Heathrow to change terminals! We had to get a minibus, then underground train and then security checks in 20mins! With 4minutes to spare, and running through the airport in bare feet (no time to put shoes back on after security) and yes, believe it or not Kim DID run!, we just about got on the flight...phew.
The flight seemed very long, not much sleep and the odd dodgy film. The people in front of us decided to recline their chairs to the furthest possible meaning we were cooped up like chickens, Megan could have sworn they were germans!!
Bangkok airport was manic, with taxi drivers trying to rip us off. Luckily we found two guys, Mark and Alex who were going to the same road as us so we hopped in a taxi together - cheaper! We both got them to carry our bags - hahahahahaha. The taxi driver was crazy, but then all the drivers are here. He blasted out the Eagles "Hotel California" whilst almost crashing every two seconds!
The heat here is unbearable, but we are staying in a room with air con similar to the antarctic so not too bad! Megan has already got to the minibar - water my friends, too hot for alcohol! We wandered along Khao San Road in the evening, amazed at the amount of stalls, sellers etc.
Both of us woke up about 4am, jetlag seemed to have kicked in. Had a bit of a chit chat, Kim looking ridiculous in her eye mask and inflatable pillow, and went back to sleep until 2.15pm!!!Decided to visit a travel agents and see about coaches tp the smaller islands etc. We ended up getting a good deal, so we have now booked our travel and accomodation for most places very very cheaply. You'll be relieved to know we've booked a flight to Singapore so we are not stuck here forever!
We had our first tuk tuk experience today with Dino the driver, he thought it wud be funny to woop woop and drive with no hands! We were laughing/screaming! As part of our trips that we've booked, we're going to ride elephants, a 3 day trek (Kim panics, grabs inhaler), tiger sanctuary, overnight trains etc etc
Had our first thai food today, Pad Thai, some Noodley-eggy-veg thing (Megan actually ATE it!) It wasn't too bad at all. Off to wander the shops tonight and then a bus to Kanchanaburi tomorrow (Hannah, we remembered you said this was nice - thanks)
We miss everyone a heck of a lot, and don't really think it's sunk in yet that we're here. Thanks to everyone who came to the airport, meant a lot to us, even if it was hideous saying bye. We might not be able to email for a few days due to the trek thing but we will txt when possible. Just to reassure you all, it's a lovely friendly safe place here and we're fine. Photos will be on soon.
Love you all, take care
