Driving down from Eungella National Park after a night at Explorer's Haven caravan park. We had hoped to camp at Fern Flats as we had done in '94 but the site was closed to car campers. The sugar cane haze gave us an orange-red full moon last night and a blood red sunrise this morning over an immense valley.
Thanks to everyone who texted birthday greetings to Austen - much appreciated.
Eungella has been a wildlife highlight for the trip. We watched a platypus last night from a distance and this morning really close. We saw tortoises, a snake in the water and as we were driving out a huge python crossing the road! Plus we had a really neat bug on our table where we had tea/coffee and scones. See additions to our trip photo album.Any ideas on bug ID?
I've added some more campers' yoga moves. There's The Crane (or maybe Flamingo if the water was hot) as you try to get your cargo pants or jeans back on in a cramped shower stall after a shower without getting the hems wet. And there's The Brush Turkey (named by Tim, who obviously shares the Groom sense of humour) where you are bent double sweeping out the tent with a tiny dustpan brush!
Deviating to Finch Hatton Gorge …
Okay - enough of the wildlife. Austen had a sandwich snatched from his hand by a kookaburra. It's fine to say 'DO NOT FEED THE WILDLIFE" but what do you do when they help themselves?
Gill I think it's a blue faced honeyeater!

Zachary Desiatov Cheuk loved the photo/s!! and blog - esp the one about the road train stuck to your back bumper bar - that was funny!! I will send you an email (with my new email address - yes, we are online in Melbourne, Victoria) later today, telling you all about our trip to Melb, and new school in the Dandenong Ranges. Im a bit jealous that you have done all those cool things (love the picture of you snorkelling with the BIG FISH!!!). Keep in touch, thinking of you. Enjoy your great adventure, Love Zac
Heather WOw, I always wanted to see a platypus in the wild ! We have just had a huge week which finished today with an all day diabetes conference in the city... 15 CE points down. The lectures had assessment for more points. I had to return early from last night's trivia night at school so I would be alert enough to pass my tests ! One more week then school holidays YAY ! I guess that means the roads and camp sites will be more crowded for you. Reef trip looked fantastic.
