Belatedly updating from Cairns. We took a day off today - it is pouring with rain and has been doing so all day. Today's photo is from near Ravenshoe. We were inside a cloud!
Coming from NT into QLD was interesting - got onto narrow roads, expected the road trains to share - they DON'T! Later we noticed signage showing that the road trains have absolute right of way. Just as well Austen gave in and moved over!
They also have interesting road signs that look like there are car-eating cows. It's really scary to have these huge cows beside the road. We also passed a whopping snake that reared up and was ready to bite the ute - turned back for a closer look but it had taken off.
We had a few days in Undara - think I've blogged that already? If you check the photo album I've put our beasties beside each other near the end - note the third one - a RAT! Tim managed to bring a 'passenger' to Cairns - probably courtesy of the Bettong - a tick. Got it out, but nasty swelling. Must research what types of tick are here.
Tomorrow we plan to do Kuranda, and Tues we have booked a Barrier Reef trip.
Cairns is HUGE - has grown so much since we were here last. We did putter along to the Botanic Gardens and got a new spider photo and one of a tortoise, but not much fun in the rain. It was 'interesting' to see warning signs beside the water in the Gardens regarding the likelihood of crocadiles in the water. Imagine a croc in our Hyde Park!!

Fiona Howdy all. Mum and Dad had a positive response to the retirement village in Kallaroo. In fact I might move in there in a few years. It sounds pretty good. I rang dad to wish happy fathers day as I could not get over and he said you had called. Hope your back has settled down Jill
