Early risers today as we set off to see Hoover Dam and the West rim of the Grand canyon. They picked us up at 6:15am, even Las Vegas was quiet at that time, who would have thought. We headed south west through what quickly turned to desert and open space. The reason most people live in Vegas area is for the national parks close by. At Hoover Dam we had to get checked by police as it is a popular target for bad people wanting to create havoc. They had some crazy attempts to destroy it like the Japanese who thought they could truck a submarine inland, launch it and then use a torpedo. Good thing the American's are vigilant about security.
Next stop the Grand Canyon west rim. Here we entered the Hualapai nation who manage the reservation for visitors. They are safety conscious, however, so as not to detract from the environmnt there are no guard rails which meant watching the kids so they didn't go over. The area is known to have wind gusts that can make it tricky. Lucky today was clear skies and no wind. At the West rim they have the Skywalk. A glass floored walkway over the canyon. Unfortunately there is a weight limit and I couldn't do it so I stayed with the bags as you cannot take camera's or phones with you. The girls said it was great, the sign said it was taller than the Burg Khalifa to the bottom of the canyon. We had lunch further around on a point which gave us great views of the canyon and the Colorado river at the bottom. From there it was back to the Strip to pack up, do some shopping and sleep as tomorrow we flight to Canada for the white Christmas in Banff.
Will get some more photo's from Hawaii and Las Vegas up in next few days.
Stay cool down under.
