Today we decided to get our bearings around Vancouver by taking the hop on hop off bus. It started at Canada Place and goes around downtown. We saw the sights of Stanley Park which we will visit tomorrow and eventually made our way to Granville Island. This has a great market for food and crafts. After looking at some of the shops we had lunch. Mum, dad and Penny had wraps, while the kids has sushi and I had a beef stirfry. Really good food and there was a great variety to choose from. We bought some fresh fruit before heading over to the kids market and then jumping back on the bus to Gastown. The kids thought this was funny, and they looked at me like I am full of gas or something? I thought this was unfair, but moved on as I am the adult.
Gastown is the old part of town and was named after a man from Hull, England who moved here and founded the first pub and was known for talking alot, hence was named Gassy Jack. Top bloke I think. We got off and found a coffee and hot chocolate before strolling the streets in the rain. There is a old steam clock on the streets that toots like a train every 15 minutes. It was really cool. After a bit of shopping we made our way back to the hotel to get ready for the evening activity. Ice Hockey at Rogers Arena. This was the Vancouver Canucks last home game of the year and they have won 3 games in a row. LA Kings were the challengers. We made our way through the crowds and security inside and bought burgers, fries and drinks to feel like real hockey fans. The pre game entertainment was good. We stood for the national anthems and I can say they do this well. National Pride is an understatement when it comes to The Star Spangled Banner and Oh Canada.
The puck dropped and it was game on. You could feel the hits as players slammed into the walls. The Canucks were on fire early and scored 2 goals in the 1st period. The stadium was buzzing. Tilds was working hard to get on the big screen with her cheering and dancing, she does this well. In the second period LA came back and scores were 2-1 going into the final period. Early on in the final period LA equalised, however Vancouver quickly scored again and then held off LA to win 3:2. Ice Hockey is intense said Emily, much more than AFL. The crowd cheered and clapped as the best players where announced and then we all filed out, walked for a bit before finding a taxi back to the hotel for sleep.
