Today started with a quick load of bathtub washing before heading out to Stanley Park. First stop was the 9 o'clock cannon. This goes bang at 9pm. It can be heard in downtown Vancouver every night. From there we saw Totem Poles, carved by the first nation people of Vancouver. These were spectacular and big. After visiting the shop we walked back through the park to the Vancouver Aquarium. This contained a variety of fish and marine animals found all over the world and other animals such as frogs, snakes, birds and even monkeys. Matilda loved making notes on the different types of fish and animals. I think she will work with animals when she is older. While we had a lunch of vegemite sandwiches we watched the training of a dolphin named Helen followed by a demonstration of the training of 2 big sea lions, both males weighing over 500kg each. They demonstrated a variety of skills and even tried to splash us, only Tild's got a few drops on her. We spoke with the trainers after and then headed back to town on the hop on hop off bus.
Back at Canada Place we met up with Stacey and Sue and did a fly over Canada experience. For this you sit in a chair, which then moved around as you fly over Canada's variety of countryside. From mountains to lakes we twisted and turned as we tried to help find Santa's elves and get them back to the North Pole. As we passed waterfalls like Niagra Falls and rapids we even got the water spray in our faces. Yep it was interactive.
After dinner we headed back to get some sleep as we are off to Whistler tomorrow.
