Today we visited Hell - Hells Gate on the way to Vancouver. It was about 3/4 of the way on highway 1. Dad said it was a good place to see water pass through a narrow gorge creating rapids. We left Kamloops in sunshine and arrived at Hells Gate in clouds and drizzle. Was this an omen? Sounds like a good time for a joke. There were 2 cars, 8 people, 4 Catholics and 4 non specific beliefs. They arrived at Hells Gate and guess what happened? It was closed. Must have been the Catholics that saved the day!
A little further down the road we came across a town called Hope. Sue heard they had a good cafe, the Blue Moose, so we stopped for lunch. It was a busy place, there was a queue for the toilet and plenty of people eating. We ordered our soup, sausage rolls and hot food and waited and waited and waited. After a long while one of the staff realised we were there and asked what we had ordered. They had "computer issues" and our order was not processed. Not surprisingly they could "Process" our money ok! We eventually got the food and it was good, just a shame about the service. Our tip should have been try pen and paper!
As we got closer to Vancouver the traffic started to build up. We eventually found the hotel on the water front. Unloaded, checked into the rooms and then dad and I returned the hire cars. After finding the petrol station we eventually found the address to return the cars. It was a multi story carpark. As we hesitantly entered we eventually saw the sign for the company and got the cars signed off. Stacey and Sue came to meet us as they have been to Vancouver many times. We walked back to the hotel and then all went separate ways for dinner. Penny, the girls and I found this nice English pub to eat at called "Lions Pub" on Cordova St. The staff were amazing and made us all feel welcome. Great with the kids and they even had a laugh at me when I asked for advice on getting tickets to the ice hockey. They just call it hockey. After a long day of driving we hit the hay for some sleep.
