Oslo Sentral Station is fairly busy late evening and of course it's still light here until past 10.30 pm during the summer. It's always something special getting a night train. I'd booked the 11.25 pm to Bergen. You pick up your room key for Sove (sleeping compartments) from the onboard cafe around 20-30 minutes before departure. I left most of my luggage (a small wheeled rucksack) in Oslo. It pays to travel light when you're in a sleeper. My roomette is in coach 10 near the front of the train. It has two small bunk beds made up with white duvets, pillows and small hand towels. Everything you need, including an electric point. My technology runs outs of juice daily so I was able to charge the batteries overnight ready for the next day's adventures. The window in the roomette is low and horizontal which doesn't make for comfortable viewing. I watched as we left Oslo just to glimpse the city from the tracks. I woke at around 4pm and took a sneak peek at the view. Wow! The train was heading through an area with snow on the ground, nestling on rock ledges in between small lakes. My appetite is whetted and I can't wait to see more Norwegian scenery.
