We got off to an early start the next morning, in the road by 6.40am and it was still very dark so we kept an eye out for cows and kangaroos. It was only half an hour to the border and with a bit of cloud building up over night we watched a beautiful NT sunrise.
The terrain was much the same as yesterday, with a few large rocky boulders appearing to give us a taste of the days destination.
We had breakfast at Erldunda, the turn off for Lassiter Highway then another 250km to Yulara. Mount Connor didn't fool anyone but it did look like quite an impressive hill.
We made it to the Yulara camp ground around lunch time and joined the queue to check in. There is only one campground at the park so it was quite busy.
We ended up in the overflow there were so many campers and after a quick lunch we headed out to the rock. It was so much bigger than we imagined. There were black storm clouds brewing on the horizon and the climb was closed so we walked around the base. We can across a small marsupial mouse at one spot but that was the only wildlife we saw.
We headed back to the cultural centre to check out the information and while we were there the rain started, we were hoping to see some waterfalls off the rock but it wasn't heavy enough. We took another walk in the light rain to a waterhole then headed back to the resort.
After a quick look at the town centre we went back to camp and put a stew on for dinner to keep the caravan warm. That and the red wine did the trick.
We have been debating the whole trip the merits of caravan v's camper but the weather proved that a solid roof had its good points even if it does mean not being quite as versatile off road.
