We left Rome today via the Frecciarossa bullet train which had us in Firenze in 90 minutes. There is no real order in Italy I am quickly realising. Trying to get 2 kids, 4 cases and a stroller on a train via a door a dozen people are trying to get in at once was very hairy and once on the train the chaos continues as you try to stow your bags whilst everyone else feels waiting for 30 seconds may be life threatening. One bonus is though you get served real espresso - makes it all worthwhile On arrival in the more sedate Firenze we grabbed two cabs due to the aforementioned luggage and stroller and arrived at our digs opposite the Pitti Palace. So given we only have this afternoon and tomorrow we dumped the bags and walked across the road and checked it out. Believe me it's Pitti by name only - the bloke must have been loaded. The gardens (Giordo de Boboli) are huge and ornate and about 2 square kilometers of them. The palace itself is well palatial. There are busts, frescoed ceilings, several quarries worth of marble and a heap of gold. I thought our B&B was cramped when we lobbed it will be downright claustrophobic after this. I bought my first souvenir today which may be a tad Italian for Tarn's liking - an enamel frescoed tile of the Duomo not a patch on the real thing which is all encompassing from the west edge of the palace grounds. Well totally knackered so back for a nana nap and then going to hunt down a nice thick Bistecca Fiorentona. Ciao che viene da bella Firenze
