We had a restful morning after a few alcoholic beverages the night before (!) and headed out to the supermarket to buy some groceries for the week with our little polka dot trolley, apparently that's what u take when u buy groceries at the store. Today was the day that we picked up our hire car at Madrid airport and travelled to the Andalucia region of Antequerra which is where we will be staying for the next week. The place has a lovely terrace overlooking Antequerra, owned by a lovely English and Peruvian couple who have been here for 11 years. It was a beautiful day in the sun! We went to the Palacio Real de Madrid and realised with the amount of people lining up outside and guards on horses, that it was the changing of the guard which we stayed to watch. Given we were sitting on the Cathedral steps, we went into the Museo de la Catedral de la Almudena and got 360 views of Madrid as well as seeing its beauty inside. Once the crowd left we visited inside the palace, it's a shame we couldn't take photos ...

4 museums in one day - firstly we went to the famous Museo Nacional Del Prado that had a LOT of amazing artwork, we were only there for 2.5 hrs! We decided to lighten the mood by going to Museo de Cera which is their local wax museum, pretty impressive. We had lunch before tackling the last two: the Museo Arqueologico Nacional and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. We felt 4 was enough in one day! Exhausted we headed back and had a chilled out evening.

Today we travelled on the train from Barcelona to Madrid which was comfortable and quick. We bought the Madrid Card which allows us entry into all local museums and other attractions. We went for a yummy lunch then got ready for the bullfighting at Plaza de Toros de las Ventas, established in 1929. It was an experience and a much loved event by the locals, not as gruesome as we thought it would be, glad we went!
