After checking into the hotel and getting sorted we decided to venture and find something to eat. I had found a couple of places on trip advisor recommended as "good local street food" so off we walked as it only looked a few streets away on the map. We eventually found it and decided to get a taxi back as the streets were full of pot holes and open drains that we could fall down in the dark. The place didn't look great and we created a lot of interest with the locals, we chose a lemon fish and some pork sticks with rice which looked quite appetising before they cooked it, when it arrived it was covered in a garlic and chilli sauce that was rather strong for our pallets. A young girl at the end of our table ordered us a vegetable salad and told us it was a present from her to us which was a nice thought, that was better than the fish but not nice either. We ate what we could along with a coke as there was no alcohol and paid the bill of 14000 kyat and then left to find a taxi. Mandalay is not a very interesting place at night despite being the former Capital and taxis are few and far between in local area where we were so we started walking. As it was hot I decided not to wear socks and after a while I had three blisters and my little toe was raw so we purchased some plasters from a stall. We were determined to find a taxi but to no avail despite the amount of traffic and trying to walk along the roads without breaking something was a challenge. We finally reached the hotel where we could get a beer as bars appear none existent. The wifi is also intermitant and slow so downloading pictures are one at a time and take about 10 minutes each!
