Out of Port Campbell by 10am and back on the Great Ocean Road. Five vistas all within just a few kilometres. First stop The Arch, steep walkway down to the viewing platform, magnificent 8 metre high sandstone archway jutting out from the cliffs. Jumped in surprise walking back to the car when a mouse ran out of the undergrowth in front of me! Next stop London Bridge - falling down! It is 3.30 in the afternoon and we have checked into the Southern Ocean Motor Lodge in Port Campbell, both totally footsore and weary, but full of the varied landscapes we've seen today. Checked out of Apollo Bay before 9.30 and headed back up the coast to Skenes Creek where we turned left to take the road to the Otway Treetop Adventure. This is on the road that loops to the north side of the Otway National Park and we had been warned it twisted and turned. But ...

Well, despite the dreadful weather we've had a really full and interesting day. Breakfasted in our room on the melon, croissants and jam we bought yesterday then headed out, all wrapped up against the elements. Very heavy sudden showers interspersed with drizzle and wind. We had originally planned to do the Otway treetop walk today but decided it wasn't the best of weather conditions to be on walkways above the treetops so we headed down to the Otway lighthouse...

Goodbye Melbourne in the sun, hello Great Ocean Road in the rain! Checked out of Hilton and took a taxi to the airport where we picked up a Mitsubishi SUV, our transport for the next 8 days. Headed out toward the GOR and grey skies. Landscape initially all very flat, then undulating as we approached Surf Coast Shire (as the road signs say). It is farming country. And again, another beautiful day. Decided to head down to St Kilda's beach on the tram to check it out. trams are excellent in Melbourne. Since the start of this year all the city centre trams have been free. For those going out of the city you have to buy a Myki card for $6 and then you load it up with cash from a machine and tap on and off on the tram so it knows how much to deduct. A bit like an Oyster card in London. Not really sure what to make of St Kilda'...
