0800 on 21/01/15 Almost ready to GO ..... Can't believe today's the day (retrospectively). We are all packed up and down at the flat in Leatherhead. Car booked to pick us up at 1630 to take us to Heathrow.
Great flight. So smooth on take off I thought we were still taxiing! Arrived Singapore 4pm local time (8 hrs ahead of the UK). Checked into the Hilton on Orchard Road. Taken out for dinner by a work associate - main event was a crab cooked whole and served in an amazing spicy sauce. Drove back to hotel past Marina Bay. Spectacular at night, all lit up, including the Marina Bay Sands Hotel - the world's second most expensive building apparently. It is constructed in three 55 storey towers with a cantilevered Sky Park floating across the top of the towers. Stunning. Will go and take a closer look at Marina Bay tomorrow probably.
21.30 on 23/01/15 . Once this morning's business meeting was done we set off for Marina Bay on the MRT (underground). Walked and walked and walked. Went up to the top of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Weird sensation, it felt as if the observation deck was moving the whole time, which it was - Eddie was lining it up with other buildings and could see it was swaying! Very odd sensation but so very worth doing. Amazing views, especially looking down onto the Gardens By The Bay - vast gardens that include the Supertrees - structures that resemble trees but which create solar energy. We saw them last night as we drove past when they were lit up. Spectacular.
Then on to Raffles where we had Singapore slings in the Long Bar, of course. Two each. Bill 112 Singapore dollars plus tax. Oops. Had to be done. Big wooden bowls of peanuts on every table - extract your nut and throw the shell on the floor, easy!
Back to hotel. Checked in for tomorrow's evening flight to Sydney.
PS don't know why this says I was at some place called Windsor Park Estate - writing it at Hilton Hotel, Orchard Road, Singapore ....
