Today was awesome.
This morning I spent a bit of time at the hostel and then headed out to do the boat cruise I booked yesterday. The cruise was actually quite good even though it was raining. I would have liked to sit out in the open on the top deck but it was just too wet. It started at the London Eye then went up to big ben and then turned around and then saw the replica globe theatre, London Tower, London Bridge and Tower Bridge and heaps more. The guy who narrated it was really good so he made everything quite interesting. He had heaps of good little facts about stuff. So that was fun.
But I've been seeing this boat car tour things driving around so I thought it would be fun so I went and booked in for one tomorrow.
Then after that, I went to Oxford st and had a walk along there and went in to a few shops and also bought a new phone that only cost me £11 and £10 of that was credit on the SIM it came with. And I also found out I get 300 free texts with it, so bargain. But also went in to a HMV store just to check everything out. It was absolutely huge. It was 2 floors and both floors were huge themselves. The second floor was completely CDs and they had a great range. They had a few obscure bands that were with the record company I worked for and a heaps of good aussie bands as well. And being London, they had heaps of Coldplay, even an album called "a string quartet tribute to Coldplay" and one of there really early EPs. I had a good chat to one of the guys there just generally about music, he was really nice.
But then I went across to Buckingham Palace to have a better look at it, it wasn't really all that exciting but at least I've seen it properly.
Then I walked around to Picadilly circus and around there along picadilly and regent streets. So there's another couple of ticks on the monopoly board. I also went to Leicester square as well. But around that area is kind of like London's mini broadway and I'd been thinking it would be fun to go see a stand up comedy show. So I had a look around for somewhere like that for a while and found a couple of places, but they were both closed. But then I saw a guy handing out flyers for a standup show so I grabbed one I went and got the ticket.
I had a couple of hours to kill before the show and I was getting hungry so I ended up going to this Japanese Okonomiyake restaurant where they cook it right in front of you. You just sit along these benches sort of, so I got seated next to a really nice lady who was English but was living in Canada. So I had a really nice meal and had a really good chat to her and the guy who was cooking it for me spoke Japanese, so it was fun.
Then I went to the comedy show which was actually really good. There were only about 50 people in the crowd so I sat right up the front. So I got ribbed by the comedian a bit but it was fun. Apparently it's a stereotype for Australians to "f**k anything that moves". I hadn't heard that one before. But they guy was really good, it was all improv for an hour and a half but it was all really funny. But then at the interval I had a chat to the people sitting next to me. There were a really nice older couple from London who were really funny and got quite involved in the show and a couple about my age who I ended up going out with after the show. The guy was from liverpool and she was a local, but they'd met when they were working at Hotel in Turkey.
The second half of the show was with another guy who had apparently been on Dr. Who and was in batman begins. And they were just doing improv games and one of them was just using lines from the audience, kind of like who's line is it anyway. So I wrote down "A koala in a pink G-String", but unfortunately they didn't pull it out.
But after the show I went to a couple of bars with that couple and we wanted to go to Karaoke place, but being a sunday night everywhere was closed. We tried driving around in a taxi and looking for one but didn't find anything. The guy Wayne was good fun especially, he grabbed us on of those one of those bicycle with a cart at the back. I still had a really good time with them.
But after that I just went back to the hostel and chilled in the group area for a while and met this Brazillian guy and watched NFL which was on with him. I was telling him all about AFL as well and gave him my details in case he ever comes to melbourne so I can take him to a game. But he was a really nice guy.
So, overall it was a really fun day.
